The Bell Let's Talk Initiative is one of the greatest campaigns that I have ever seen! Everyone involved in this endeavor should be commended for bringing the stigma of people suffering with mental illness to the forefront. Like cancer, I believe that everyone has had either direct or indirect contact with someone suffering with mental illness. If this initiative can make it easier in any way for people suffering from one type or another of these sometimes debilitating illnesses, then the world is a better place! So many people, both young and old, have left us too soon because of mental illness, we all need to make the effort to help end the stigma of these illnesses! I am very proud, appreciative, and thankful to be working at such a fine institution as UPEI, very proud to be in the AUS Conference, and very proud to be in U Sport Canada… but what I am most thankful for, is that my job allows me to be around so many incredible young people on a daily basis both here on our beautiful campus at UPEI, and throughout our entire country! Our student athletes, in my mind, have driven this #Bell Let's Talk Initiative! Without their tremendous support from coast to coast, there is no way that this initiative would have garnered so much positive attention around the world! Congratulations to all that have helped this very positive initiative take flight, and especially to all of our student athletes throughout our wonderful country! One final word… if there are any young people out there searching for someone to talk to, someone to listen to you, and you have not been able to find them yet… PLEASE KEEP SEARCHING, they are out there and would love to help you!
We have two huge home tilts this weekend, and both are four pointers! Friday night at 8:00pm, we host the hot shooting Acadia Axemen. The Axemen have at least two of the top three point shooters in the nation, and lead our conference in threes made per game and overall team three point percentage. They beat us earlier in the season in league play by thirteen points, and we edged them by three at the Shoveller. Acadia currently sits four points ahead of us in the league standings, and a win against them would tie us for the final play-off spot!
SMU comes to town Saturday for an 8:00pm encounter. They are hot, and boast one of the toughest front courts in the country. Their guard play is also second to none. The Huskies handed us our worst defeat of the season back in November, and I would be lying if I said that the loss at SMU was not a tough one to take. We are well aware of how good they are, but we feel like we did not play to our level there… we are hoping that the PANTHER DEN will be a great remedy!
Calling on the PANTHER FAITHFUL… WE NEED YOU TO PACK THE GYM FOR BOTH OF THESE GAMES! We need our large and boisterous fans to make the difference for us against Acadia and SMU! All UPEI students and our great community fans and supporters, get out to these games!
GO PANTHERS GO!
