Jamie Blanchard is in his third season as UPEI Panther's Goaltending Coach. Jamie works with both the Male and Female Teams, bringing over 25 years of goaltending coaching experience including stints in the AUS, QMJHL and the MJAHL. In his first season with the Panthers, Jamie worked with the strong goaltending tandem of Wayne Savage and Mavric Parks. Savage would be named a team All-Star and finished with the top save % in the AUS conference. Savage also earned a spot on Team Canada at the World University Games. In 2012, Jamie's work with the Female Panthers helped them on their way to capture the AUS Championship, while the goaltenders of that team provided solid play throughout the post- season.
Prior to joining the Panthers Jamie spent 9 years with the PEI Rocket of the QMJHL. During Jamie's time with the Rocket he worked with young goaltenders who would go on to be drafted in the NHL. This list includes: Antoine LeFleur (NY Rangers), Max Legace (Dallas Stars), and Antoine Bibeau (Toronto Maple Leafs). Goaltenders Evan Mosher and Ryan Mior were League All-Star selections while working with Jamie. From 1997-2002 he coached the Charlottetown Abbies with his goalies winning two Maritime Junior A championships, one Eastern Canadian Championship and a Silver Medal at the 1999 Royal Bank Cup. In 2012 Jamie was a Guest Goalie Coach at the Dallas Stars NHL Training Camp.
Prior to coaching, Jamie played major junior hockey with Verdun Jr. Canadiens and Granby Bisons of the QMJHL; and after a tryout with the Ottawa/ PEI Senators in 1993, earned a scholarship to the UPEI Panthers where he played for five seasons with UPEI panthers, winning the 1990-91 AUAA championship and being named UPEI Most Dedicated Player in 1993.
Since 1989, Jamie operates his own goaltending school, Blanchard Goaltending, with over 200 students per year (www.blanchardgoaltending.com). In 2006 he developed Jag Hockey, a goaltending equipment business that makes and exports pads, gloves, cups, and armpads all over the world (www.jaghockey.com). Jamie currently resides in Charlottetown with his wife Margaret and daughters Madison, Gabrielle, and Sophia.
