The UPEI Panthers women's hockey season ends with an unfortunate result as the Tommies found their stride in the second and never looked back.
St. Thomas forward, Emily Oleksuk, who had a big night, scored the first and only goal of the opening frame at the 7:32 mark. The shot from Oleksuk, was the only shot the Panther gave up in the period.
The second period is where the Tommies broke the game wide open, putting up five goals in the middle frame. In a span of a minute and forty seconds, the Tommies were able to score three times including a powerplay goal from Alisha Giblert. Lauren Henman, and Olivia Reid provided the other two goals within that span. The Panthers were unable to catch any breaks after being down four midway through the hockey game. St. Thomas, added two other insurance markers from Henman, and Oleksuk to end the second period.
In the third, Oleksuk completed the hat trick, early in the final period to extend the Tommies lead 7-0. For the Panthers, Maria Clinton provided the only goal for UPEI at 6:55. Forward Stephanie Ford, provided the final goal of the game.
For the Panthers, it marks the end of their 2017-18 campaign with the 2-0 series loss. St. Thomas will move on to the AUS semi-finals, where they will face Saint Mary's, who finished 13 points ahead of them in regular season play.
