Panthers score three in third for 5-2 win

The Mount Allison Mounties hung close with one of the AUS's top teams on Wednesday night, eventually losing 5-2 to UPEI on two late goals including an empty netter with less than a minute to play.

UPEI's Taylor Gillis scored the first goal of the game at 15:49 of the first period.  Kristen MacIntyre and Mireille Martin picked up assists as the Panthers took a 1-0 lead.  The Panthers struck again just 1:13 into the second period as Kaylee Dufresne scored an unassisted goal to make it 2-0.

The Mounties would make it a game late in the 2nd when Lauren Shaw scored to make it 2-1. Emma Schurman assisted on the play. UPEI restored their two goal lead just 41 seconds into the 3rd period when Rachel Cole scored just as a penalty to the Mounties expired.

But the Mounties would not go away quietly.  Senior Maddy Koughan caused a turnover in the offensive zone and then walked in all alone and slipped one past Camille Scherger in the UPEI goal with just over 10 minutes to play. The Mounties then came close on the power play just moments later as the puck slid past open nets on two occasions.

UPEI would shut the door with just over 3 minutes remaining as Jolena Gillard scored a power play marker to give UPEI a 4-2 lead.  Faith Steeves added an empty netter with 49 seconds remaining as the game ended 5-2.
