(Halifax, N.S.)—The UPEI Panthers used two goals from Braylan MacEachern on Saturday night. as the Panthers defeated the SMU Huskies 2-1 in Atlantic University Sport women's soccer action from Huskies Stadium.
MacEachern (Murray River, PE) opened the scoring in the 62nd minute.
UPEI's corner kick was headed out by SMU but put back into the box by UPEI, who forced the Huskies goalie Grace Morrison into action, making a diving save to her right.
The rebound found MacEachern who notched her first AUS career goal.
The Huskies answered back in the 65th minute from captain Fiorella Morales (Bedford, NS), who let loose a 30-yard cannon, which beat both the keeper and the tv camera angle.
MacEachern's second goal came in the 76th minute off a long pass over the top from the Panthers defence.
MacEachern played the ball off her chest and two touches later—deposited the ball with her left foot—and beat the outstretched left hand of Morrison for the deciding go-ahead goal.
UPEI had 10 shots and nine of them found the net while SMU had 13 and eight found the net.
Each goalie made seven saves in the match.
River Ryan, Nova Scotia native Julie Ann Reid pick up the win for UPEI, who improve to 3-8 on the year while Halifax, Nova Scotia native Grace Morrison picked up the loss for SMU, who drop to 1-10 in conference play.
The Panthers host Mount Allison October 26th at 1 p.m. while Saint Mary's home and season finale is October 25th versus Moncton at 5 p.m.
