Two Prince Edward Island field hockey players have an opportunity they never envisioned.
Alexis Wood and Kali Smith have advanced to the next phase of a selection process at a national training camp.
Wood, Smith and Lindsey Doiron, all members of the UPEI Panthers, attended a camp for university players, which included five players from the Maritimes, in Toronto in June.
Two teams – East and West – were then selected for a four-game series at UBC in Vancouver, July 27-31. This is the final selection process, and players selected will have an opportunity to move forward to international tournaments with the under-21 and under-23 teams.
