This Week (No Games)… PEI Sr. Men’s Basketball League… Regular Season Opener & More!
With no games scheduled, the Panthers go back to basics in practice this week.
We have no games scheduled this weekend, so we went back to basics this week in practice. We have done a lot of individual work within our team offensive and defensive concepts, as well as a lot of work on the mental aspect of the game. It has been a great change to our "regular" practice schedule, and I think that for the most part, our players have enjoyed it and learned from it! I have always believed that in order for your team to improve, your players must improve.
The PEI Sr. Men's Basketball League opens Tuesday, Nov. 8, with our "Free Agent" run. This is mostly for players that are still trying to get picked up by one of the teams in the league. This will be our fourth year running the league, and we are very happy to do so! The league schedule runs this year from Nov. 13 to Feb. 21. We play a 16 game regular season plus play-offs, and all games are played here in our beautiful gym on Tuesday evenings and late Sunday mornings/early afternoons. We are expecting to have at least five teams again, but would like to add a sixth for sure! If anyone out there requires more info about the league, or wishes to put a team in the league, please feel free to contact me right away!
Our regular season kicks off here at home against a much improved X-Men team, Nov. 4 and 5 at 8:00pm. We have eight games prior to the break. We travel to UNB for two Nov. 11 and 12, then we head to Acadia Nov. 18 and SMU Nov. 19, before finishing up the first half against MUN here Nov. 26 and 27. As always, the AUS appears to be very strong, and very tight! Teams 1 – 8 are tough, and there will be no easy games! Our preseason league rankings have been completed and will be made public very soon. I am anxious to see them myself! I think that DAL, based on their defending champ status and strong exhibition play results, would have to be #1. From there on however, there may be lots of different opinions! One thing is for sure, it should be another fantastic year of basketball for all fans of the AUS!
GO PANTHERS GO!
